Shhh...Did u here that???

Hey Chicas!
Wahhhh!! Wahhhh!! Did you here that?

It's the faint sound of a baby crying. The only problem is I hear crying when the baby is asleep or even when I'm out of the house running errands sans baby. This faint cry rings in my ear 24/7. The other day I told my hub the baby was crying he said, "Huh..What? She's been sound asleep for an hour." I thought that's it I have officially checked out. This extreme fog of sleepiness has made me delusional. I am hearing things now! ...Did I just step into a M Night Shyamalan movie? LOL!

Anywho, I know it's been a long time since my last post. I decided to take at least a month away from everything to focus on my new life. I don't have any new hair developments. The idea that I would actually have time to do a henna treatment is almost laughable. That certainly didn't happen. In fact, it took me almost a month to wash my darn hair.

I did wash my hair with a new product though.  I used the Bobeam shampoo bar which came highly recommended. I believe you can purchase it on Etsy. I nabbed mine from Sage Naturalceuticals my fav natural hair store.

I must say I wasn't all that impressed with my results post wash. My hair felt like it needed alot more moisture.  It never feels like that when I use Terresentials. I didn't deep condition which might explain the dryness. It might have also been the result of the soy protein listed in the ingredients. I am protein sensitive and too much protein causes my strands to snap crackle and pop like a bowl of rice Krispies.

Of course this little snafu brings me back to my first love...Nothing I mean nothing is better than my mud wash. Every time I use something else my hair bucks like a donkey. Looks like I will be sticking with my beloved Terresentials for the long haul.

Yum Yum Lemon Bars

Hey guys!

You gotta try this all natural lemon bars recipe.  My coworker made them the other day for a birthday celebration.  I must say that I haven't tasted lemon bars this yummy!  Check out the recipe compliments of the Food Network.  I will try to replicate them this weekend.  The recipe doesn't appear to be that difficult.  Click the link for the recipe as it appears on the Food Networks website. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/lemon-bars-recipe/index.html.

Here are the ingredients and directions below...

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 1/2 pound unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

For the filling:

  • 6 extra-large eggs at room temperature
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons grated lemon zest (4 to 6 lemons)
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup flour
  • Confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
For the crust, cream the butter and sugar until light in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Combine the flour and salt and, with the mixer on low, add to the butter until just mixed. Dump the dough onto a well-floured board and gather into a ball. Flatten the dough with floured hands and press it into a 9 by 13 by 2-inch baking sheet, building up a 1/2-inch edge on all sides. Chill.
Bake the crust for 15 to 20 minutes, until very lightly browned. Let cool on a wire rack. Leave the oven on.
For the filling, whisk together the eggs, sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, and flour. Pour over the crust and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the filling is set. Let cool to room temperature.
Cut into triangles and dust with confectioners' sugar.
Here is a picture of the zesty yumminess!

I know bout birthin babies now....

Hola Chicas!

I just wanted to pop in to let you guys now that I served an eviction notice on my little border. You know she had the nerve to try to stay in my belly up until the absolute last minute. The doctor had to pull her out by her curlie Q's. We are super blessed and excited though!

Anywho, I wanted to give you a brief hair update. I washed my hair a week ago (after my leave in twist post) and literally have not touched it since. I don't even think I bothered to detangle it. The Terresentials mud wash does a great job at keeping my hair relatively tangle free after washing. I am currently wearing it in a bun and will probably keep it like this for a few more days. I am thinking about trying jumbo curlers and maybe doing a henna treatment. The jumbo curlers seem to be pretty idiot proof. They don't appear to be as difficult as the curl formers or as time consuming as the flexi rods. I gotta keep it quick and simple. I just don't have the time or patience for day long styling sessions. Imma woman on the move now! If only the New York Stock Exchange sold time and sleep like it was a commodity. I swear I would sell everything I had for a thousand shares! LOL.

In the meantime in between time check out this 2 Week old neglected twist out.

Viola Chocolatey peanutty goodness at your fingertips!

8 1/2 months pregnant and no hair fuss!

Hey ladies!

Check out this easy breezy one, two, threezy style. I must say the one thing I have learned about my hair I absolutely cannot escape is that simplicity is what works best for me. Whenever I try to stray away from my basic regimen BOOM catastrophe strikes like the Joker from Batman!

Now, the other week I thought I would try kinky twist. No...No...No...not just the kinky twist I do on my OWN hair. I wanted Lisa Bonet long flowing twist with marley hair. I chalk this up to nothing but my raging hormones! I have NEVER in my entire life wanted to add hair to my own to get length. I already have an abundance of hair which on a bad hair day resembles a huge helmet.

Heck, I should have known something was up when my stylist kept saying to me, "Girl, you got too much hair for me to be adding more. You sure you want this style." I ain't mad at her though she was just trying to do the style I requested. Plus, I only go to her two or three times a year for mini twist she didn't know any better. Needless to say 4 hours and 6 packs of hair later I looked into the mirror and saw cousin "It" from the Adams family staring back at me. Those dang on twist were so heavy and long I could barely pull my hair into a ponytail for work the next day. All I needed was a white T-shirt, some biker shorts and a pair of shiny police shoes to resemble a back up dancer in late 90's reggae video.

Chile, I mustered up every piece of energy my 8 1/2 months pregnant self had to take those twist out of my head. It took me about 3 hours. Afterwards, I felt like a ton of bricks had been lifted off of my puny neck.

What's the lesson in all of this you ask??? Stick with what you know. Don't make any drastic changes to your appearance when you are hormonal or about to experience a major life change. Eighty bucks down the drain and some poor animal choking on all that hair in a landfill somewhere for me to learn I need to stick with what I know.

Anywho, here is the back to the basics style I wore today... 12 large twist pulled over in a side ponytail. Super simple just like I like it!

3 and 2 on Natural!

Hey guys,

I wanted to check in with you and give you some quick hair news. I am three years and two months natural! Yeah! I know...I know...I'm two months late to the party right?  Please, don't ask...Things have been so crazy I forgot to mention my three year anniversary.  Anywho,  here is my growth over the last three years.

Now, I am putting a warning advisory on the first few pictures.  Sorry, ya'll.  I had no idea what I was doing the first month or two after I big chopped and my hair looked like a jheri curl straight out of a Soul Glo commercial. Look at that first picture.  Sexual Chocolate.  I said Sexual Chocolate! Drops microphone and exits stage...  A dang gone shame.

The last picture shows my length (as much as it can).  My hair has not been blown out or flat ironed in any of the pictures..  It has been almost three years since I had my hair flat ironed. My hair was originally cut in layers after my Big Chop so the longest part is bra strap length and some areas are shorter. Peep the pictures below....

Me 2 months after BC getting my Soul Glo on!
I just got the memo on dry twisting here...

6 months later I discovered the power of a wet twist out!

3 plus 2 months later.  My hair was just pulled down from a
donut bun and looks like a birds nest.  I should have at
least detangled it! LOL!

Baby Shower Remix and other randomness

Buenos Dias Chicas!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I know you guys are wondering where in the heck I've been.  All I can say is baby preparation has me on lock down.  This little boogie has me running errands, nesting like crazy, and snatching up last minute stuff for her arrival like no bodies business.  I feel like a little tweetie bird building a nest! LOL!

Anywho, I've been pretty darn productive.  I think I've crossed off every possible list I can for baby goodies.  Seriously ya'll.  I just came from the store with several bags filled with items like foot cream, gripe water, baby gas drops, and countless other things people told us we need.  What in the heck do we need with foot cream?  Is the baby going to be engaging in infant team sports and taking showers afterwards? The funny thing is that my husband looked at me in the store and asked, "What's this stuff for?"  I looked at him and said, "Your guess is as good as mine.  I don't know MAN...Just put it in the cart.  I dunno know nuttin bout birthin no babies either."  But, I'm sure we will both find out soon enough.

I also wanted to show you guys pictures from my "Baby Shower Take 2 the Remix"....All my fabulous friends came out and showered us with so much love it wasn't even funny.  So many smart, beautiful, strong women....Shout out to my sister for always having my back and giving me a fabulous shower!

Check out the beautiful Caftan I nabbed from Daniel Troppy at DoubleTake.  I absolutely adore Caftans and they are especially fantastic for women who are preggers!  You can be comfortable and fashionable at the same time.   What girl doesn't love that!  Here is the link to Daniel's website.  http://dtroppy.blogspot.com/
